"Don't Hurt Me"

The Kea performed a play for us last week called "Don't Hurt Me". Ra and Charlotte helped out this group as they needed to some more people. The class were impressed by how well they acted out their parts and that they were moving around the room.

The play was a great first attempt by this group and we look forward to seeing more.

Bokashi Buckets

Last week Lesley Ottey from the Council came to talk to us about recycling. She showed us photos of what happens to milk cartons and paper rubbish and she also talked to us about food scraps.

The council has donated a Bokashi bucket to each classroom around the school. This bucket is for recycling food scraps that the worms don't like. It has a special product added that breaks down the food and also produces a liquid that is good for the garden.

In the picture Millie is showing us some of the components from milk cartons and Lesley is explaining the Bokashi buckets.

Poor Old Robot

This week Ra, Charlotte and Harri have been practicing a play about a broken robot. Ra (Moon Boy) and Charlotte (Moon Girl) try to fix Harri (The Robot). The children had good actions, clear voices and added some humour to their performance. It was a great effort and the audience were full of praise for their efforts.

Fruits or Vegetables???

This week we posed the question "what is the difference between a fruit and a vegetable?"

We found out that fruit have seeds and vegetables don't. My question was then "where are a pineapples seeds?, as I have never seen any. Ollie took on the challenge and found out at home that a pineapples' seeds are on the inside and near the bottom. I will have to look very closely the next time I cut into one.

Our bean seeds have also started to sprout. Take a look at Paulo's bean. We are not sure what secret ingredient he is feeding it as it is so much taller than any others.

Gemma and Maia also brought in a piece of fruit with some amazing seeds inside. Thank you girls for sharing what you found.

The Bean Seeds Sprout!!

Who knew that growing beans would be so exciting???? I had forgotten the joy the children get from planting and caring for their own seeds. Even though it is an odd time to grow beans the children are taking extra special care of their precious seeds. There was much excitement this afternoon when we found roots. Eight days after planting and they are coming to life.

We will keep you posted on their progress.

Year 2 Poetry Finalists

Congratulations to Riley, Jaxon, Jack and Janey who are the Year 2 Poetry Finalists. The finals will be held on 15th June. The time of which is to be confirmed.

MacBook Pro's

We are so lucky in Room 4, 5, 6 and 7. The children are now working on brand new MacBook Pro's. They are very excited and are quickly getting used to the tracking pad that controls the cursor.

Shared Story

Each day someone from the class chooses to read us a story of their choice. They practice their book first and then sit up the front and read. The idea behind this is to develop their confidence in reading aloud to an audience. This term it is not compulsory but most children do choose to try.
